Déjà Vu Honeymoon

Can you feel a difference in the air these days? Aside from the heat, you may have been feeling more of a bounce in your step lately. We feel it here too at Devour.

It has been so wonderful to be part of so many lovely outdoor weddings this summer. Photo: @whitneycowanphotography

As we move through the summer and forward with vaccinations and re-openings, there is most definitely a sense of celebration permeating everything we do. There is a deep sense of excitement and happiness and a general desire to scream from the rooftops. With every event we are asked to cater, we feel like we are back in the early stages of Devour’s launch. People are smiling, clearly happy to be in a social situation. It’s definitely akin to a honeymoon phase.

Like any revival, there are many people who are being cautiously optimistic. It may take some time to get used to other people sharing our spaces again, wanting to hug, eating from family platters and sitting at tables with strangers. It’s okay to be hesitant about throwing that party you’ve had to put off for a year. Over the last few weeks we have encountered people who still want all their food individually packaged and dropped off. Not everyone is ready for servers bearing platters.

The palpable energy around this re-emergence was likely present at events before COVID, but we just didn’t need to pay attention to it before. Before March of 2020, every celebration was met with anticipation and good vibes, but it wasn’t until we came to a full-stop that the ability to share our milestones with those we cherish became something we missed.

Now that we can gather again, weddings and milestone birthdays are at the top of the celebration list. People are planning and looking forward to hosting and no longer willing to put things off to a later date. The level of detail we are seeing with regard to requests for specific décor, limousines, horse drawn wagons, and other special touches is something  that may not have happened if they had been part of a normal planning cycle.

It will take time for all of us to be swept back into life before COVID. The Devour team is buzzing with the energy our clients have brought back and we are wholeheartedly grateful for inviting us to help them celebrate. We are adjusting to keep people happy and to keep our staff and all the guests as safe as possible. We feel like we are on a second honeymoon.

It feels so good to see people connecting and it also feels great for us to be able to serve fantastic food and help you build more memories. Thank you to everyone who has included us in their celebrations. Cheers!
